Ok, let's go for yet another "photo dump" of my fooding experiences in Taiwan...it's been a little while, so this is going to be one big blob of food photos - here goes:
Some good stuff here from the food court at the Miramar (sp?) mall right by my future home in Da Zhi - my parents took me there to check out our home-in-progress. Man, the food was so good...I'm such a sucker for "Taiwan Xiao Chi" (Taiwanese little snacks...)
Here we have The Sweet Dynasty, a dim-sum-like place on Chungshiao - really good food, nice clean & inviting decor...and even Westerner-friendly menus, with many pictures, numbered items, and English/Chinese descriptions. Hahahaa... Pictured above is a really interesting Chao Lo Bo Gao...turnip cake, but fried almost like a scramble. Me and Cathy were laughing about how they should be serving it at a Chinese Denny's....hahahaa.
Here we have pretty much the food highlight of my entire trip so far, which is saying a lot. After checking out the Christian school where my mom's dad was principal (and where my 2nd oldest uncle on my mom's side currently is the principal), we headed out for a famous hole in the wall place in one of the alleys of Tainan and had some Lu Rou Fan (Bah Seh Bung) and some fish-stomache soup... It was...so...good. My whole family was gushing about it...to be fair, none of us had had the stuff in a while, but still...good stuff.
Haha...a 100% organic sandwich made for us at our bed & breakfast (it was aite)...and of course, here's a Taiwanese Sausage w/ garlic I bought off a street vendor...yummaay.

Here are some shots from Grand View Cafe...a restaurant right there in the National Fine Arts Museum in Taichung...the food was ok, but the presentation as you can see was pretty nice. ;) More important was the company...we were able to connect with my dad's fourth sister & family, who we haven't spent time with in over a decade!! Our two cousins, Jianhao and Peilong, are almost exactly the same age as me and Cathy, and it was awesome to be able to catch up and just share our experiences & perspectives. Food...good. Company...better. |
